Raz Kids and IXL Logins
Raz Kids and IXL Logins and passwords are being sent home today. Please keep these in a special place so they will not get lost.
Note that Raz Kids passwords consist of a 2 picture icon.
Raz kids reading levels have been set by me and will be adjusted as time goes along.
Feel free to begin using these learning websites as part of homework time.
IXL concepts can be matched to math skills outlined in our monthly classroom newsletter.
The homework guideline for time in first grade is 15-20 minutes. Fundations dictation packets for each unit will be the only other formal homework piece sent home for now.
Please send me an email with any questions you have.

A few more pictures
Here are a few extra photos from the last 2 weeks in class.
Building friendships, bookmaking at the rug area, getting cozy in our "Howda Hug" chairs and just being together. Such a lovely group of first graders!

Using hands on tools to help us learn!
We counted a variety of different objects and practiced making tally marks in groups of five using dry erase boards. Next we practiced showing numbers 1-20 using popsicle sticks to make our tally mark groupings. This is what activity based learning looks like during our math lessons.
Collecting data and making graphs
This week we have been busy collecting data on a variety of topics and learning how to create 3 types of graphs including bar graph, picto-graph and picture graph. The children are learning how to interpret the graphs by sharing what they see and what our collected data shows them. We are using words such as more and less, most and fewest, and equal as we analyze our data. The children are already using their math journals to record some of what they notice as they respond to journal prompts about our graphs. Everyone has been involved and engaged in this math work this week!

Welcome to a new school year!
The children have been busy getting to know their new classroom environment and each other. Such a kind and caring group of children they are! This week the children are making books about themselves to share with a partner. I have been busy taking photos of the children in action and I look forward to sharing them with you in a slide show format on September 21 during the Cutler School "Icebreaker." Please visit our classroom from
5-6pm and then stay for ice cream on the front playground from 6-7. I'm looking forward to meeting you all and the children will enjoy showing you around our classroom.
