Folktales and Fairy tales

We have been reading and discussing a variety of tales over the last two weeks. The children have been captivated by this genre study. We are creating our own puppets for retelling story elements, creating backgrounds as we discuss the place of each tale, and we are taking time to chart out all the elements we notice in these types of stories. We have discovered, clever children who trick large giants, clever foxes who trick children, animals that act like people, witches, towers, forests, cottages, repeating lines in text,  morals and lessons, just to name a few!
We enjoy reading several different versions of each tale in order to compare illustration styles and story content

Flannel board story sets allow the children to retell stories on their own
