We have been very busy these last 2 weeks working in math on "composing shapes." The children are learning how to compose new and larger shapes by using smaller familiar shapes. We have explored this concept using pattern blocks and tangrams. We continued our study of symbols that represent America as we learned about the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, and the American Flag. The particular group of first graders has been so engaged in this topic! It's been great fun to watch them gather facts from expository texts and put their knowledge to work as they created mini books, flip books, and works of art connected to American symbols. Enjoy the photos below!
